We offer a genuinely international research and teaching environment in a Russell Group university.

Currently ranked 6th out of 101 UK business schools for the quality of our research and joint 1st for research environment (REF 2014), we are also consistent as one of only two UK business schools ranked in the top 10 of every government research exercise since 1992.

The PhD programme will prepare you either for a career as a leading academic scholar or to excel as a business practitioner or senior public policy decision maker.

Chaowei Wang

"We have a macroeconomics reading group, a microeconomics workshop and two wider economics seminars almost every week. As well as hearing from students at Cardiff, researchers from outside the School are invited to present. This helps us understand the latest research and network with other universities and institutions."

Chaowei Wang, PhD Economics candidate

As a PhD student, you are fully integrated into our research and academic community. You will be provided with the tools, support, and the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and generate impact in your chosen academic field.

Key to providing you with a profound learning experience is our Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) recognised research methods training provision. Via the ESRC Wales Doctoral Training Partnership based in Cardiff University, each year we are able to offer ESRC PhD Studentships in Management and Business, and two ESRC PhD Studentships in Economics.

Luís Pinheiro De Matos
