This research programme adds significant value to current work by drawing together the inter-disciplinary methodological strengths in the Institute to better measure and characterise "place".
A range of data exists on people within places, however, objective data on places are sparse, relying on administrative data sets such as multiple deprivation and Office of National Statistics census-derived characteristics. We are filling this gap in knowledge, leading to the creation of a multi-dimensional typology of people and place.
The framework will be applicable to a variety of research questions in environmental, social and economic sustainability and will provide substantial added-value to important questions in understanding health inequalities in Wales and the development of complex interventions needed to address these.
