Pathway to a degree in Computer Science and Applied Software Engineering
Our part-time Pathway to a degree in Computer Science and Applied Software Engineering course has been designed for adults who want to return to education in order to apply to study for a degree.
Modules are taught mostly in the evenings and at weekends. You will study in a relaxed and supportive environment. After studying the Pathway, you will be able to make an application to study the following undergraduate degrees:
- Computer Science G400
- Computer Science with a Year in Industry G401
- Computer Science with Security and Forensics G4F4
- Computer Science with Security and Forensics with a Year in Industry GKF4
- Computer Science with Security and Forensics with a Year of Study Abroad 125V
- Applied Software Engineering 4JVD
How it works
Applicants wishing to enrol on this pathway will need to have five GCSEs A-C/9-4.
The Pathway is made up of 60 credits. This includes compulsory core modules and additional optional module(s).

Core modules
- Python Programming (20 credits)
- Fundamental Mathematics (20 credits) (Mandatory for Computer Science, only mandatory for Applied Software Engineering if you do not have Maths GCSE.)
- Academic Communication Essentials for STEM (only mandatory if you do not have GCSE English Language.) (10 credits)
Optional modules
- Digital Literacy Essentials (10 credits)
- C++ Programming (20 credits)
- Practical AI: Artificial Intelligence in the Digital Age (10 credits)

Duration
Under normal circumstances, you can expect to complete the Pathway within one year, but you can take longer if needed.
