We offer a range of level 7 (MSc level) stand-alone modules that you can take as continuing professional development. A number of our modules are inter-disciplinary.

Applications to study standalone modules in the School of Healthcare Sciences must be made through our online application system.

Modules

HCT344 - Research and data analysis in healthcare

The aim of this module is to develop students’ ability to critically understand and conceptualise the process of research within the context of health and social care. This will include current thinking and debates relating to methodology, methods, data analysis, data management, ethics and governance.

HCT053 - Clinical Competence in Mammography

This module aims to enable the student to formalise and develop their understanding of mammographic principles and related subjects.

HCT023 - Sport and Exercise Participation

This module will enable the student to manage the injured sportsperson and active individual and to develop injury prevention strategies with cognisance of all potential roles involved.

HCT139 - Musculoskeletal Diagnosis and Treatment

This module aims to enable students to develop a problem-solving approach to neuromusculoskeletal diagnosis based on biomechanics and functional anatomy.

HCT200 - Neurorehabilitation: A Theoretical Basis

The aim of this module is to enable the student to consider the theoretical basis to neurorehabilitation of adults or children, based on current theories of neuroscience and understanding of neuropathology.

HCT401 – Biomechanics of Human Movement: Applications for Health and Pathology

The aim of this module is to give the student an advanced understanding of movement analysis and of the biomechanics and motor control of the neuromusculoskeletal system.

HCT341 - Cardio-Respiratory Care: Theory to Practice

The aim of this module is to develop in the student a critical understanding of the biology, physiology and pathophysiology of the human respiratory system at an advanced level.

HCT199 - Evidencing Learning in Specialist Professional Practice

This module aims to offer students the opportunity to investigate an area of specialist professional practice.

HCT236 - Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy Theory and Application

This module aims to enable students to examine the sociological concept of professionalism and to relate these to the theory of occupational science and occupational therapy in an in depth way.

HCT342 - The Art and Science of Occupational Therapy

The aim of this module is to develop students’ understanding of the art and science of occupational therapy practice from a range of theoretical perspectives. Students will critically explore the different theories relating to creativity (art) and its interplay with science, evaluating the relevance of these to their own area of practice.

HCT181 - Foundation in Advanced Clinical Assessment for Healthcare Professionals

The module aims to focus on enabling students working within emergency and unscheduled care environments to develop their clinical patient assessment and diagnostic skills within their specific area of practice.

HCT352 - Advanced Practice in the Management of Minor Illness

This module is specifically aimed at healthcare professionals who work in a general practice or other community settings.

HCT372 - Advanced Assessment of Child and Young Person

The module has been designed to build on the healthcare professionals’ current knowledge, understanding and skills and take these to an advanced level within their specific area of clinical practice.

HCT350 - Complex decision making

This module is aimed at health care professionals working in, or preparing for, roles at an advanced or a higher level of practice in complex care.

HCT203 - Public Health, Health Economics and Policy

In this module you will critically explore how policy makers influence healthcare practices and behaviours in the UK and internationally in the field of public health and other healthcare services.

NRT073 - Patient Safety and Clinical Risk

This module will critically explore theoretical, professional, organisational, ethical and legal perspectives which inform patient safety and risk management in advancing and advanced practice.

HCT400 - Fundamentals of Cancer Care: Patient and Professional Perspectives

This module's main focus on cancer as a chronic long-term condition.

HCT392/HCT393 - Leadership in Health and Social Care

This Masters level module aims to provide health professionals wishing to practice at an advanced level and beyond with the specific skills and knowledge to lead effectively in a range of contexts and to develop new roles and services.

HCT391 - Facilitating Learning and Teaching

This module focuses on evidence based approaches to facilitating learning, teaching, inter professional learning and quality assurance in higher education and clinical practice.
