HCT203 - Public Health, Health Economics and Policy

In this module you will critically explore how policy makers influence healthcare practices and behaviours in the UK and internationally in the field of public health and other healthcare services.

The development of modern public health practice and how this can work towards reducing health inequalities will also be considered.

You will also explore the role of politics, economics and policy bodies and their effect on the many health challenges of the 21st century. You will consider the nature of professional regulation and the interface between professionalism, managerialism, inter-professional and inter-agency working.

This module will utilise lectures, small group work and tutorials in order to develop knowledge and critical appraisal of health policy and economics. Shared learning is a central theme and students will benefit from studying alongside others in a variety of settings.
