Researchers working in a busy chemistry lab

The School of Biosciences is committed towards developing researchers and translating scientific findings into societal impact.

We foster an environment for excellence and collaboration, supporting our active research community. At the School of Biosciences, we have a vibrant and inclusive research culture, enabling world-leading research and career development, whilst delivering national and international impact.

Our commitment towards our inclusive research environment was recognised by an Athena SWAN Silver Award in 2016, which was retained in 2020.

I joined Cardiff University to undertake my PhD project. I have since gone on to continue my research as a postdoctoral research associate working on various projects in different labs which has provided me with the skills necessary to begin applying for my own fellowship funding in the near future.

Innovation and collaboration

We put ourselves at the centre of innovation by enabling collaboration within our School, across the University, and beyond.

The School of Biosciences lead or co-lead several of the University's research institutes and centres, including the Water Research Institute, the Medicines Discovery Institute, the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute, Danau Girang Field Centre, Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Institute, Sustainable Places Research Institute and Biomechanics and Bioengineering Research Centre Versus Arthritis. This provides the ideal environment for interdisciplinary research with real-world impact.

Our Technology Hubs ensures access to state-of-the-art technological resources, equipment and collaborative expertise for everyone within our School.

I have received a lot of support and valuable advice during my time at the School of Biosciences. Since joining the University, I have had an extremely fruitful time in research, having secured two consecutive fellowships as well as a number of other research grants. I have also become a recipient of a prestigious young investigator prize in my research field.
