Support for student parents
Whether you already have a child or are about to become a parent, we have services available to support your study with us.
We believe that being pregnant, adopting or caring for a child should not in itself be a barrier to applying for, starting or succeeding in a programme of study. We strive to be as flexible as possible in any such situation.
The university has a policy on pregnancy, maternity and becoming a parent while enrolled on a programme of studies that includes a set of guidance notes for you.
Little Scholars Nursery
Little Scholars Nursery is our on campus nursery that welcomes the children of both students and staff, aged ten weeks to five years.
We provide a safe, nurturing, inclusive and stable environment that is innovative, stimulating and challenging – one where all children can thrive, learn and make new friends.

Government funded childcare
Government funded childcare for 3-4 year olds
The Childcare Offer for Wales provides for up to 30 hours of government funded early education and childcare to 3 and 4 year old for 48 weeks per year.
Access to the early education element of the offer was universal but access to the childcare element was only eligible to working parents. It has been announced that from September 2022 the Offer has been extended to enable parents who are in education and training to benefit from the additional hours of funded childcare.
Extra financial support
Additional funding may be available to students with children via your funding body (Student Finance, NHS Student Awards Service). The funding is means-tested on the household income. It can include additional allowances and support towards childcare costs. Please contact your funding body for further information.
The Student Funding and Advice Team in Student Life can work with you to ensure you get all the funding you are entitled to from your funding body and from welfare benefits.
If you require advice or information on how being a parent will affect your studies, you can contact the Student Funding and Advice Team to discuss options such as reporting extenuating circumstances or even applying for an interruption of study. If you seek help in finding childcare or locating a school if you are moving to the area, the team can also provide support and signpost you to other services and organisations.
