Year 2 projects
The Applied Software Engineering (BSc) Year 2 project build on the concepts learnt in the first year, applies data driven theories and introduces the students to designing software that is secure.
Semester 1 (autumn) - Data-driven, secured web applications
This project builds on the skills grown in Year 1 - web technology, Java and databases.
The focus is on designing components and testing them. Some students will start the transition to client-side rendering and production of APIs. This challenge will also have security requirements especially around authorisation and authentication, injection attacks and possible encryption issues.
The project should be a data-driven web application with security requirements and with a desire to move into the mobile world. Ideally, the project challenge will have some complex business requirements.
The project should identify several types of users who will have different access levels to the data processed and stored by the web-application (e.g. admin, client, supplier). Examples of previous projects include:
- a system for showing flood sensor data
- a system for managing loyalty card programmes
- a system for logging tasks for onboarding new members of staff
- a system for tracking the performance of elite athletes
Projects will typically start from around mid-November, and run for four-weeks to mid-December.
