Year 1 projects
The Applied Software Engineering (BSc) Year 1 project is designed to introduce students to the basic concepts of software engineering, packaged into a simple web design project.
Semester 1 (autumn) - Simple web design project
This predominantly involves the presentation of static information but also has the requirement to store simple user-supplied information that would be retrieved and presented. This data can be required to be manipulated before presentation so long as the manipulations are simple e.g. graphs, pie charts etc.
Additional possibilities:
- projects could require simple persistent user experience (cookies/ sessions)
- creation of PDF documents
- file upload and storage
Whilst students are encouraged to present artistically creative projects, they are assessed on the technical functionality of the project, the project’s management and on the ability to deliver value to the client. Past projects have included social media integration and maps integration. Examples of previous projects include:
- a system to generate pdf packing lists for a warehouse
- a directory of co-working spaces
- a town trail showing places of historic interest
Projects will typically start from around mid-November, and run for four-weeks to mid-December.
