UKRI Future Leader Fellowships

Mae'r cynnwys hwn ar gael yn Saesneg yn unig.

We welcome expressions of interest from applicants who wish to apply for a UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) Future Leaders Fellowships (FLF) with Cardiff University as the host organisation.

The FLF scheme welcomes applications from both UK and international applicants. Individuals should use the person specification in the call document to justify their suitability for the scheme.

The significant support of the institution will be a critical component of these fellowships, which will enable the fellow to transition to or establish their research/innovation independence in any area supported by UKRI.

The support offered will be long-term and flexible and will provide comprehensive package of support, including the fellow's salary and justified research, staff and training costs, with seven years of support available on a 4+3 model, with a review in year four.

The case for support should make clear the long-term aims of the programme, and why they matter – while providing more specific plans and costings for the first four years.

This is a single scheme across the entire UKRI remit, with no ring-fenced budgets for specific areas and no barriers to interdisciplinary or cross-sector research.

Expressions of interest

Cardiff University has an internal process for assessing expressions of interest to this scheme – see below.

NOTE - You must ensure that you have discussed an application to this scheme well in advance of submitting an application to one of our internal College review panels (see below). For the October 2019 deadline, you are strongly recommended to get in touch as early as possible, and by end of 1 May 2019 at the latest, to comply with internal school deadlines.

To express interest in this scheme, please email risresearchdevelopment@cardiff.ac.uk, with the following details:

  • your full name
  • your discipline and expected host school.

We will put you in touch with your proposed host school and provide you with all of the information you will need to submit an application to this scheme with Cardiff University as your host organisation.

Please note that applications for the latest round are now closed.

College assessment panels

Once support for salary funding has been agreed at School level, all applications will require formal approval of a College-level assessment panel. The Colleges will make recommendations to the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research for a final decision.

Emphasis will be on the quality and competitiveness of the individual and alignment with Cardiff University’s priority areas for growth in research.
