Consolidator Award

This scheme is currently closed.

The Consolidator Award is a new ISSF3 funding scheme that has been introduced to support early career researchers who are already demonstrating the potential to become subsequent leaders in their field.

Providing support for outstanding postgraduates, to prepare applications for early career awards (eg, Henry Wellcome Postdoctoral or MRC Skills Development Fellowships). Successful applicants will be expected to publish papers from their thesis and undertake a small research project, with a new mentor, thereby enhancing their research skill-set.

Consolidator awards can be applied for during the following time-window, designed to ensure that the applicant remains eligible for key early career fellowships.

  • Earliest time-point for the application: individuals must be well into the final writing up stage of their PhD (eg, not more than four months from submitting their thesis).
  • Latest time-point for the application: Eighteen months after the date of the applicant’s PhD viva. Due to employment restrictions, awards cannot start until the PhD thesis has been submitted.

'This project will investigate exactly how TG2 (a protein - transglutaminase 2 that has critical functions in tissue repair, but can also function abnormally and trigger an immune defencemechanism that attacks the body itself, resulting in disease.) influences the immune response, by studying its ability to cause immune activation.'
