From Decarbonisation to Dematerialisation
Did you know that the amount of money tied up in inventories is about 10%-15% of the GDP in western economies?
With so much money tied up in physical products, it is strange that sustainability, circular economy and ESG indices emphasise decarbonation but not what we, in the PARC Institute, “colloquially” term dematerialisation (i.e. the opportunity to manage and forecast end-of-life inventories, reduce obsolete stock and declutter the economy from otherwise useless inventories). This project is amongst the first to consider such issues.
It is funded by the Welsh Government, runs with support from two major organisations (DSV and ESG.AI) and employs resources from Cardiff University's unique circular economy facility (RemakerSpace). It is set to make a significant contribution to the theory and practice of modern logistics and supply chains.

The project team
The RemakerSpace was developed to provide businesses and communities with the skills, equipment and knowledge to change the way we design, consume and dispose of products.
