German Goethe Institut
The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach.
We are an examination centre for Goethe-Institut qualifications awarded and recognised worldwide. These qualifications are in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for languages. We run language courses that can help you prepare for these examinations.
Note that the A1 Start Deutsch 1 qualification is compulsory for proving the language ability related to spouse immigration (Ehegattennachzug).
Exam fees vary depending on whether you are an internal or external candidate. Internal candidates are students currently enrolled on a German course in the School.

Examinations take place in June each year, with registration during March and April. In 2022, exams at level A1, A2 and C1 take place on Saturday 25 June. Exams for B1 and B2 take place on Friday 24 June.

Goethe-Institut examinations are well known throughout the world and the associated certificates are accepted as a qualification by employers and further education institutions in many countries. The Goethe-Institut’s German language examinations correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and range from A1 for beginners to C2 for language skills at advanced level.
To register for the exam please complete and return the registration form. Upon successful registration you will receive a confirmation of enrolment. Closer to the examination date you will receive a statement of entry confirming the exam date and time.
