Sibongiseni Msipa
Sibongiseni is a bioinformatics researcher based at the South African National Bioinformatics Institute (SANBI), with expertise in machine learning, data analysis, and computational biology.
Sibongiseni holds a Master’s in Medical Science in Bioinformatics from the University of Cape Town, where she specialises in optimising deep learning models for biomedical image analysis.
Sibongiseni’s role as a Junior Training Coordinator at the South African National Bioinformatics Institute allows her to develop and deliver training on ISO-certification-ready bioinformatics workflows to empower public health laboratories across Africa.
Sibongiseni's research background includes analysing immune responses in HIV and SARS-CoV-2 vaccine studies at the Africa Health Research Institute and has contributed to peer-reviewed publications in journals such as Cell Reports.
Sibongiseni’s passions lie with leveraging computational tools to strengthen genomic infrastructure and drive impactful, patient-centred science.
