National Library of Wales at Cardiff
Located on the ground floor of the Arts and Social Studies Library, this discovery space provides people in Cardiff and the surrounding area easy access to a wealth of digital material otherwise only available at the Reading Room in Aberystwyth.
Footage from the screen and sound archive has been included, with free access to over six hundred films, view hundreds of landmark programmes from the ITV Collection and watch recorded programmes of Welsh interest broadcast on Britain’s main television and radio channels.
This space is recognised as National Library of Wales premises. Membership of the National Library of Wales is required and can be set up prior to your visit or once you are here.
Available electronic resources
The National Library of Wales room provides access to the main library catalogue as well as specialist catalogues including Welsh Newspapers Website, Welsh Women’s Peace Petition, Wills, Marriage Bonds and Places of Wales. The room also offers access to restricted subscriptions including Family Search, Findmypast and Official Publications Online as well as many other electronic resources.
Access to the room is available during ASSL staffed hours.
Clip Corner
The Clip Corner in the ASSL provides access to Clip Cymru, a collection of digitised film, video and audio from the Wales Broadcast Archive and The National Library of Wales' Screen and Sound Archive.
The archive brings the story of Wales and the Welsh archive alive in front of our eyes. It’s a remarkable story, told by thousands of voices and moving images since 1898.
