This week has been filled with celebrations and fond farewells as Cardiff University and the China Scholarship Council’s 12-week University Management and Innovation training programme draws to a close.

The Chinese delegates officially completed their programme with a formal certificate ceremony on Tuesday 11 September. The event was hosted by Professor Nora de Leeuw, Pro Vice-Chancellor International and Europe, and Professor Wen Jiang of the School of Medicine. The 106 delegates representing 83 universities across China, were also presented with gifts from Cardiff University, including a commemorative book documenting their training programme and 3-month stay in Wales.

On Wednesday 12 September, Cardiff University held a farewell dinner at the National Museum, Cardiff, hosted by Professor Rudolf Allemann, Pro Vice-Chancellor of College of Physical Sciences & Engineering, and attended by guests including Mr SUN Hui of the China Scholarship Council.

Guests enjoyed a drinks reception in one of the museum’s impressive galleries accompanied by a solo harpist, before a 3-course meal and entertainment by Cardiff Arms Park Male Choir. As the evening drew to a close, senior members of the delegation treated the audience to entertainment including a beautiful rendition of a traditional Chinese song.

2018 marks the third annual programme in collaboration with the China Scholarship Council, and is just one of many international projects that Cardiff University is developing in collaboration with international partners. Delegates from Guizhou University, China arrive in Cardiff on Monday 17 September for a 4-month bespoke programme created by Cardiff University’s School of Social Sciences, with support from the CPD Unit.
