In the driving seat

All roads lead to Cardiff for Industry 4.0 research after a team from Cardiff Business School picked up the best paper award at the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) Conference in India.

The paper, ‘Smart Inventory forecasting application’, was authored by Nicole Ayiomamitou, Dr Maneesh Kumar, Andrew Lahy, Professor Aris Syntetos, Mike Wilson, & Ting Ji - a team of graduates and researchers from the Panalpina Centre for Manufacturing and Logistics Research based in Cardiff University.

Andrew Lahy, co-director of the Panalpina Centre for Manufacturing and Logistics Research and Global Head of Logistics Strategy and Innovation, Panalpina, said: “Winning the best paper award is a great achievement for Panalpina and Cardiff University...”

Runners up in the same category for their paper, ‘Digital Manufacturing for Spare Parts: Scenarios for the Automotive Supply Chain’, were Dr Michael Ryan and Dr Daniel Eyers, also from the Panalpina Centre for Manufacturing and Logistics Research.

The conference held in Pune, India, brought together global expertise in the field of Industry 4.0 for two days and was attended by over 700 industry participants including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), SAP, Bosch, Panasonic, Microsoft, PWC and TATA Motors.

ACMA represents the interest of the Indian Auto Component Industry. Its membership of over 780 manufacturers contributes to more than 85 per cent of the auto component industry’s turnover in the organised sector.
