To drive research for the benefit of patients affected by cancer and inherited disease in Wales and beyond.

Our translational research focuses on the genetic and molecular basis of human disease with a particular interest in cancer and inherited conditions.

Aims

  • understand the genetic basis of disease with a focus on cancer and inherited conditions
  • understand the mechanisms of tumour initiation and progression
  • employ information from basic and clinical studies to develop new diagnostics and therapeutic approaches in cancer and inherited conditions
  • understand the genetic basis for inter-individual variations in therapeutic response.

Themes

Genomic Instability

Genetic and genomic medicine

Cell and molecular biologists, molecular geneticists and bioinformaticians work in conjunction with clinical scientists, psychologists and social scientists, to better understand the underlying mechanisms of cancer and genetic illness.

Haematology

Haematology

Working closely with other investigators at Cardiff University with a major focus on basic and translational research into haematological malignancies and on clinical trials exploring innovative treatment for leukaemia.

Solid Cancers

Solid cancers

Improving the outcome of patients with cancer with a focus on clinical trials and linked laboratory research.
