HCT053 - Clinical Competence in Mammography

This module aims to enable the student to formalise and develop their understanding of mammographic principles and related subjects.
It aims to allow the student to expand their evaluative, problem-solving and critical thinking skills in order to apply this knowledge in the delivery of a high quality service to well women/patients.
To promote an in-depth understanding of breast imaging, diagnosis and treatment and stimulate students to undertake research and evidence based practice to enhance clinical competence and effectiveness. To develop the students professional judgement through experience, reflection on practice and the integration of this knowledge and comprehension with advanced clinical skills.
This is a optional module for the MSc in Radiography, and can be studied as a stand-alone module for Radiographers. This is a profession specific module for radiographers.
A clinical placement is required for this module.

Students must possess a first degree or diploma in Radiography giving licence to practice and normally have a minimum of two years post-registration experience.
Students will need to provide a signed contract from their line manager confirming a clinical commitment that ensures a minimum of ten mammograms are undertaken per week for the duration of the module.
Overseas students wishing to undertake this module can only do so with an agreed clinical placement. There would be an additional charge for this. For further information contact the module leader.
