HCT208 - Appendicular/Axial Image Appreciation

The aim of the module is to provide you with the advanced knowledge necessary to appreciate imaging of the appendicular and axial skeleton, detail image appearances, interpret pathology and relate significance to the management of the patients.
Our aim within this module is to provide you with the knowledge to:
- identify and recognise normal and abnormal anatomy of the appendicular and axial skeleton.
- critically evaluate data concerning patients referred for radiographic examinations of the appendicular and axial skeleton.
- correlate clinical histories medical diagnostic tests with relevant image appearances, demonstrating advanced reasoning skills.
- produce concise and coherent diagnostic image comments.
- relate diagnostic image reports to subsequent further imaging and patient management.
- evaluate the accuracy of own work to achieve a sensitivity and specificity of 80%.
- reflect critically on own practice and performance.
- analyse the syntax of a clinical radiographic report, acknowledging medico-legal implications.
- evaluate the impact of audit in the field of imaging and synthesise improvements.
The module can be taken on a stand alone basis. However, if you are completing a PG Cert or PG Dip in Image Appreciation then HCT209 Radiation Science and Protection is a pre-requisite module.
