Complete your IT set up

Last updated: 10/09/2024 12:06

After you’ve successfully completed online enrolment, you’ll have access to a range of digital resources, IT applications and software.

Your IT checklist

Complete these steps to finish setting up your IT account, access digital tools and get ready to access wifi on campus.

Once you’ve completed online enrolment, you’ll be able to access the student intranet. The intranet is your gateway to all the tools, applications, resources and services you’ll need throughout your student life.

If you’re looking for something specific, use the search function on the homepage where you’ll also find the latest news, events, and popular links.

You will need to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) before you can access some university systems, such as your email, Microsoft 365 apps and remote access to applications.

MFA adds an extra layer of security to your university account and it’s an important part of protecting your data by verifying your sign-in via another device. Log in to the student intranet to learn how to set up and use MFA.

You can install Microsoft 365 apps for free on up to five computers (Windows or Mac) and up to five mobile devices (iOS or Android) and you can use it for as long as you are working or studying at Cardiff University.

Log in to the student intranet to download and install Microsoft 365.

Log in to the student intranet to learn about the tools and platforms we use to support teaching, learning and assessments. Your school will also provide you with more information about these tools and platforms at your induction.

Protect your personal information

Don't be a victim of fraud. Email and phone scammers target UK universities, especially new students, with the hope of stealing your money, financial information, or personal details. Learn how to keep your account and personal details safe on the student intranet.

Cardiff University will never:

  • email you asking you to validate your email account
  • warn you that your mailbox is full
  • ask you for your password

Don't give out personal or financial information, like bank details or your PIN, over the phone, even if the caller claims to be from a known or trusted organisation, like your bank or the university.

If you are ever in doubt that it is us contacting you, do not respond and instead contact us via our official channels to confirm whether the contact is genuine.

Download our free antivirus software

You can download and use a free copy of the Sophos Home antivirus software from the student intranet.
