Claire Morgan is Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor, Education and Students.

She is responsible for the University's teaching and learning portfolio, programmes of study, academic standards and the quality of the student experience. As Pro Vice-Chancellor, Claire is also a member of the University Executive Board.

Responsibilities

Her specific responsibilities include:

  • oversight of the development and delivery of our education strategy
  • quality assurance processes for excellence in academic standards
  • enhancement of the student experience
  • widening access and participation activities.

Teaching and learning

Claire re-joined Cardiff University in 2019 as the Director of the University’s Centre for Education Support and Innovation (CESI), where she led the teams for curriculum design, academic development, digital education and student engagement.

With an academic background in economics, Claire is no stranger to Cardiff University, previously holding positions of Associate Dean of Quality within the College of Biomedical and Life Sciences, and as Associate Dean of Cardiff Business School.

More recently, she was academic Dean for Learning and Teaching at Cardiff Met University where she was the strategic lead for learning, teaching and quality in the University.

In 2017 she was awarded Principal Fellowship of the Higher Education Authority (now AdvanceHE), recognising her strategic impact in relation to learning and teaching, and wider commitment to excellence in academic practice.

Memberships

Claire has been appointed by the Cabinet Secretary to the Board of Qualifications Wales, which regulates all non-degree qualification within Wales, as well as being a qualified academic Higher Education Reviewer for the Quality Assurance Agency. She is Vice-Chair of the board, and is also Chair of the Regulations Committee.

Claire sits on the QAA Strategic Advisory Committee, as well as being a QAA academic reviewer since 2012. Committed to the enhancement of working in partnership with the student body, Claire also acts as Chair of WISE Wales which is a cross-sector group supporting student partnerships across HE and FE in Wales.
