Overview
I graduated from Cardiff University in 2019 with an integrated master's MEng first-class degree in mechanical engineering where I focused on marine renewable energy, completing projects on tidal trubine technology in the third and fourth years of my degree. I also undertook projects in automotive design and was the lead of the engine team in 2018/19 for Cardiff Racing formula student team.
I am now undertaking a PhD as part of the NERC funded GW4 FRESH CDT, focusing on the challenges faced by freshwater systems. I am supervised by Dr Catherine Wilson and Prof Jo Cable and my stakeholder is the Environment Agency. My project focuses on fish hydrodynamics, kinematics and behaviour at anthropogenic barriers in rivers and how they affect fish passage. I am particularly interested in migratory fish such as the european eel. Barriers in rivers have been linked to population declines of what are now critically endangered species and understanding better ways of allowing migratory fish to complete their life cycle is an important step in ensuring these species can recover.

Research interests
My research focuses on understanding the hydrodynamics and kinematics of migratory fish at obstructions and passage solutions. I primarily work with european eels (Anguilla anguilla) but have also conducted experiments with rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). All my work is experimental and is conducted in the flumes of the hydraulics laboratory of the school of engineering.
