Check that you're protected against common infectious diseases before starting university, and find out which vaccinations we recommend.

Living, studying and socialising with lots of new people can increase the risk of infectious diseases spreading.

We strongly recommend that you are up to date with all your vaccinations before arriving at university:

If you're unsure whether you have had any of these vaccinations, please check with your GP.

If you live outside the UK, check with your local healthcare provider to make sure you are up to date with these vaccinations before you arrive.

Healthcare students

Your vaccination history is reviewed as part of your Occupational Health Assessment. Make sure you’re able to provide your most up to date vaccination records.

MenB vaccination programme

Students under 25 and starting their first year of university are being offered a vaccine to protect against meningitis B (MenB).

Earlier this year, the UK Government launched an urgent vaccination programme to protect young people from MenB, a bacterial infection that can cause serious illness, including meningitis, septicaemia and sepsis.

The vaccine is given as two doses, four weeks apart, to ensure full protection.  attend a vaccination clinic as soon as possible to ensure you have time to receive a second dose.

Here is a list of all the walk-in vaccination clinics taking place. No appointment is needed, but please bring evidence that you are a first-year undergraduate student, such as your university offer letter.

First vaccination (dose):

  • 23 September 2026: 10:00 - 16:00, Room 1.28 and 1.29, Centre for Student Life, Park Place, Cathays, CR10 3BB
  • 24 September 2026: 10:00 - 16:00, Room 1.28 and 1.29, Centre for Student Life, Park Place, Cathays, CR10 3BB
  • 28 September 2026: 10:00 - 16:00, Room 1.28 and 1.29, Centre for Student Life, Park Place, Cathays, CR10 3BB
  • 2 October 2026: 10:00 - 16:00, Second Floor, Cardigan House, Heath Park Campus, University Hospital of Wales, CF14 4XW

Second vaccination (dose):

  • 21 October 2026: 10:00 - 16:00, Room 1.28 and 1.29, Centre for Student Life, Park Place, Cathays, CR10 3BB
  • 22 October 2026: 10:00 - 16:00, Room 1.28 and 1.29, Centre for Student Life, Park Place, Cathays, CR10 3BB
  • 26 October 2026: 10:00 - 16:00, Room 1.28 and 1.29, Centre for Student Life, Park Place, Cathays, CR10 3BB

If you have already had their first MenB dose at a community clinic over the summer, you are urged to get your second dose at one of the university clinics in September.
