The Hodge Centre for Translational Neuroscience
The Hodge Centre for Translational Neuroscience will translate genetic breakthroughs into the development of new treatments for patients with mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and mood disorders.
This can only happen through external engagement with the other players in this arena, namely industry, the NHS and the third sector. The Centre will continue to use the unique Cardiff environment to attract and train the brightest and best minds to tackle the problem of mental illness whilst expanding and embedding our approach of working with partners to translate our research into new treatments for patients. Our existing partnerships with Takeda and Janssen have already shown potential, and we believe we can make Cardiff the “go-to” place for inward investment in translational mental health research.
Over five years, the Hodge Centre’s work would include the following key elements:
- Developing the next generation of research talent through the Hodge PhD Scholarship Programme of 18 prestigious and highly competitive PhD scholarships.
- Supporting the best early career researchers beyond their PhDs.
- Translate our innovative research for patient benefit.
- Engage with partners, patients and the public through our annual Hodge Public Lecture and outreach events with industry, clinical groups, the NHS and the public.
