Science Careers Fair – 2012

3 December 2012

Wednesday 7th November saw the second Science Careers fair take place with around 300 students from the Schools of Bioscience and Chemistry attending. The event had an increased amount of exhibitors compared to last year, and so, 20 stands were present in the Viriamu Jones Gallery. Sectors such as conservation, catalysis, chemical analysis, drug delivery, materials, teaching, healthcare and marine science were all represented at the event. The event had a full schedule of talks that included:

  • The Life Science sector
  • A scientist working in the media
  • Careers in Clinical Science
  • Vectura-Student placement opportunities
  • Careers in Environmental consultancy
  • Dow Corning-Student placement opportunities

Students from both schools attended these varied talks which covered all aspects of employability, CV tips, career advice and potential recruitment possibilities in industrial placements and graduate opportunities.

This excellent event allowed employers to reach out to students and educate them on what they look for when recruiting. In return, some of these exhibitors are now interviewing students for differing placements they have available.

Organised by the Schools of Bioscience, Chemistry and the Careers Service; this event has increased in size and diversity in just 12 months. We value any feedback from those who attended and aim to deliver this event next year with equal, or improved quality. We are always welcome of new companies whom would like to participate and so if you’d like to get in touch, please contact:

Dr Tom Tatchell – School of Chemistry

Mr Ian Horton – School of Bioscience
