Facilities

We are based inside Main Building, a historic building central to other University facilities and Cardiff city centre.

Though it may look traditional from the outside, our teaching spaces inside are anything but. Many of our learning spaces have undergone a transformation to ensure that they are fit for modern study, providing a spacious and engaging learning environment for all.

The main library for chemistry students is the Science Library, located adjacent to the School in Main Building. It houses many physical resources, such as books and journals, but also has a wide range of electronic materials available online.

Computer suites and group learning rooms are located within the School, Science Library and across the University campus in order to facilitate group and independent study.

What our students say

The University buildings are grand and inspire learning. I personally love the location of the School of Chemistry, situated in the Main Building of the University and complemented with a superb Science Library. The course is challenging and a good amount of time is spent in lectures, labs, tutorials and workshops. So far I’ve developed many skills and attributes not only as a future chemist but also as candidate for graduate employment in an increasingly competitive market.

Research facilities

With an investment of over £20 million in recent years, our extensive facilities enable research in all branches of core and interdisciplinary chemistry.

We are home to the established Cardiff Catalysis Institute (CCI), a University-supported initiative to develop an internationally leading centre of excellence for catalysis within the UK.

Our laboratory spaces have also been recently renovated to create a thriving research atmosphere for major new initiatives in Chemical Biology, Structural Chemistry, Nanoscience, Catalysis, Physical and Organic Chemistry.
