Our research environment
Our culture of innovation, strong community and outstanding facilities will help you achieve your research ambitions.
The strength of our research environment was measured in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2014, in which we ranked 5th out of UK universities for the quality of our research.
You will benefit from award winning training and career development services, which help you develop technical skills, learn how to communicate your research and give you the ability to lead world-leading teams. We continually invest in new facilities and you will have access to world-class equipment.
We run a number of initiatives and programmes which are dedicated to encouraging innovation. We can help you connect with business and industry and explore how your research can actively change the world.
You can help shape the future of our research environment through our Research Staff Association. Made up of committed volunteers, it influences the way researchers are supported and managed.
The creation of our Research Institutes is testament to our commitment to bring the greatest academic minds together to crack the world's biggest problems. Collaborations between the institutes are extensive, from interdisciplinary projects and joint grant incomes to shared technologies and equipment.
You will benefit from being part of a community of leading academics. There is a shared culture of excellence, and staff are working at the frontiers of knowledge in their disciplines. This culture creates an exciting and vibrant environment in which to work.
