Sport is a big part of the culture of Cardiff and going to see an event or match is a quintessential part of studying here.

In addition to these large venues, a wide variety of sport is played in Cardiff, as well as sport and fitness at the University.

Principality Stadium

The Principality Stadium is a famous part of the Cardiff skyline. It is unusual in being a 73,000-seater stadium but located in the city centre.

Because of its small footprint, but large capacity, it has an intimidating atmosphere for opposing teams, particularly when Wales are playing rugby at home.

The stadium also hosts big-name concerts and more unusual sporting events, like monster trucks and speedway.

International Sports Village

Located in Cardiff Bay, the International Sports Village is a huge regeneration venture.

In addition to an ice-rink (home to the Cardiff Devils ice hockey team) and White Water Centre, the village has the Cardiff International Pool – a world-class swimming venue with a 50m Olympic pool.

When complete, the village will also house an indoor snow centre.

Cardiff City Stadium

The Cardiff City Stadium, located south-west of the city centre, is home to Cardiff City football (soccer) club. Most of the Welsh national soccer side home games are also played there. Both teams have passionate followers in Cardiff.

Cardiff Arms Park

Cardiff Arms Park is situated next to the Principality Stadium on Westgate Street and is home to Cardiff Blues Rugby Team. During the Rugby World Cup in 2015, the park was transformed into a ‘Fanzone’, where they displayed a number of the games and provided live entertainment.

Sophia Gardens

Sophia Gardens are located next to Bute Park and is where Glamorgan Cricket Club (and occasionally the England team) play their matches in the SWALEC Stadium.
