Students' Union

Cardiff Students’ Union (CSU) is at the heart of Cardiff student life. That means that CSU is here to support students to thrive and to have their backs when things don’t go as planned, all within a safe, inclusive space where students can be who they want to be.

CSU was voted 2^nd place in the UK in the WhatUni Student Choice Awards 2023 for best Students’ Union (SU) and is consistently graded in the top 5 for student satisfaction in the UK by students.

Spanning the Cathays and Heath Park campuses, the SU operates a purpose-built facility in the centre of Cardiff that houses cafes, shops, bars, a letting agency, a post office and 24-hour flexible study spaces for students to meet, relax and make the most out of their time at university.

The SU is led by an elected full-time student officer team who provide dedicated representation and support for the needs of students and researchers. They shape all the activities and services we deliver for students; we’ve outlined these below.

Your student communities

As soon as you enrol as a student, you automatically become a member of the student community at Cardiff Students’ Union, one of the biggest, best and most active in Britain.

There is something for everyone to get involved in across our 200 societies and 65 sports teams. Our student groups are a force for good on campus and in the local community, running events, fundraising activity, and volunteering projects that around 15,000 of you get involved with each year.

Your student voice

The SU also works with you in all aspects of your academic life, giving you what you need to shape your education and providing care should things go wrong. This includes recruiting and training over 1,000 Academic Reps each year, who serve as a valuable link between the university, the Students’ Union and the student body to ensure that your voices are taken seriously at every level.

Your student experience

The SU is also about creating unforgettable student experiences, striving to deliver exceptional events and services based on what you want from your time at university. From clubnights, crazy golfing, to trips to local hotspots and events targeted at boosting wellbeing – all profits from CSU services go into funding the charitable services of the organisation.

Your wellbeing and future

The activities the SU provides empower you to look after your own and each other’s well-being, supporting you to gain the skills, knowledge, and resilience to find your place in the world. From helping students find part-time work through the Jobshop service, to providing a free, independent, and confidential advice service whenever you need support, it’s well worth exploring all the services the SU has to offer.
