Cardiff University Rehabilitation Academy (CURA)

The Cardiff University Rehabilitation Academy (CURA) brings together education, rehabilitation and community impact.

What we do

Through student-led clinics under expert supervision, CURA supports athletes and stroke survivors while providing invaluable real-world learning experiences for future healthcare professionals.

Sports Physiotherapy Clinic

Our Sports Physiotherapy Clinic provides accessible assessment, treatment and rehabilitation support to members of Wales Touch Association, including players and referees. Delivered by postgraduate physiotherapy students under expert clinical supervision, the clinic offers valuable hands-on learning while helping athletes manage injuries, reduce the risk of future problems and optimise performance.

Exercise classes for Stroke Survivors

Our Clinic for Stroke Survivors supports members of the local community through a supervised high intensity resistance training exercise programme. Working alongside specialist neurological physiotherapy lecturers, physiotherapy students play an active role in delivering and progressing exercises tailored to participants' needs. This unique experience enables students to develop their clinical skills, confidence and professionalism while supporting stroke survivors in their recovery.

Opportunities for students

CURA provides opportunities for some of our physiotherapy students to gain real-world clinical experience in a supportive learning environment. Working alongside experienced clinicians and academics, students develop their assessment, treatment, communication and professional skills while contributing to community rehabilitation services.

Opportunities for patients and community participants

We work with athletes, sports organisations and stroke survivors through our clinic activities. Participation opportunities vary throughout the year.
