Macmillan funded Community Oncology programme delivering impactful training for UK and international primary care teams
24 Awst 2022
We supported the University’s Community Oncology team and colleagues in Velindre Cancer Centre to launch a 2022 webinar programme, kindly funded by Macmillan Cancer Support. The programme delivered impactful training via live webinars and ratcheting up hundreds of views on our YouTube channel.
The Community Oncology team first ran a highly successful webinar programme in 2021 to support primary care teams during Covid. A previous face-to-face programme ran in 2019 which provided the most up-to-date resources for GPs and primary care workers, this was also funded by Macmillan. Demand is high for training in this area, and when Covid hit, the team pivoted to online to provide a much-needed free resource.
The 2022 programme is similarly designed to support primary care teams in their practice, with four sessions, each looking at a particular cancer in depth: Breast, Upper GI, Urology and Gynaecological cancers. Sessions featured the Community Oncology team (Dr Fiona Rawlinson, Consultant in Palliative Medicine and Programme Director of Postgraduate Palliative Medicine at Cardiff University; Dr Mick Button, Consultant Oncologist at Velindre Cancer Centre; Dr Elise Lang, Macmillan GP in North Cardiff) and guest speakers including clinicians and specialist nurses.

- 573 YouTube views (to date)
- 369 views of breast cancer video
