A group of Cardiff Business School students have picked up the Best Team award at the Institutional Stage of the Student Employee of the Year Awards 2020.

Undergraduates Summer Clairmonte (BSc Business Management) and Mayuresh Waghmare (BScEcon Economics) together with Cardiff MBA student Gregorio Andrade were recognised by the National Association of Student Employment Services (NASES) for successfully combining a part-time job alongside their studies and making an exceptional contribution to their employing organisation.

The team were nominated by Dr Jane Lynch, Reader in Procurement at Cardiff Business School, after supporting her to organise an international research study on public procurement.

She said: “Each student had a high-level of responsibility managing delegates who were senior government advisors and practitioners from 15 countries. They also took notes for us during a three-day research workshop focusing on the procurement of innovation...”

“Nawr rydym ni'n datblygu allbynnau i gyfnodolion ar sail y data a gofnodwyd ganddyn nhw i ni. Felly, roedd yn gyfraniad yn hynod werthfawr ac rwyf i'n hapus eu bod wedi derbyn y gydnabyddiaeth sefydliadol hon. Croesi bysedd y bydd eu llwyddiant yn parhau ar y camau rhanbarthol a chenedlaethol.”

Following the institutional stages, winners go on to compete in the regional finals against candidates from other universities within their geographical region.

Regional winners will then go on to compete at the NASES Student Employee of the Year Awards final.

All three students are scheduled to graduate this summer as part of Cardiff University’s virtual graduation celebrations.

Following her work placement with Dr Lynch, Summer has since secured a procurement role with 2Buy2 based in Bridgend.

“Roedd prosiect yr Astudiaeth Ymchwil Ryngwladol ar Gaffael Cyhoeddus yn gyfle rhagorol i weithio ochr yn ochr â gweithwyr proffesiynol profiadol o bedwar ban byd yn y maes mae gen i ddiddordeb gweithio ynddo. A chadarnhaodd y profiad fy mwriad i ddilyn gyrfa ym maes caffael.”
