Shadow Minister visits the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences

19 Chwefror 2020

Earlier this week, the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences opened its doors to the Welsh Conservatives’ Shadow Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Rural Affairs.

During his visit, Andrew RT Davies was given a presentation on the School’s latest teaching and research by Dr Andrew C Kerr, Reader in Igneous Petrology and Director of Student Recruitment.

Mr Davies saw first-hand some of the work from the Research Centres in Solid Earth and Natural Resources and Geobiology and Geochemistry, as well as research in facilitating new approaches to resilience and environmental change.

The visit included a tour of the laboratories and demonstrations of some of the facilities employed within the School, including the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) and new fluid inclusion equipment.

Following the visit, Mr Davies took to Twitter where he said: “A huge thanks to Dr Andrew Kerr for being so generous with his time, showing me one of the many top facilities Cardiff University has to offer.”

Dr Kerr will be making a reciprocal visit to Mr Davies in the Assembly in the next few months.

Andrew RT Davies is one of four Assembly Members representing the South Wales Central electoral region, which includes Cardiff University.
