The Louvre, Paris

French premiere of Dr Arlene Sierra’s Butterflies Remember a Mountain at the Louvre

The award-winning Sitkovetsky Trio will give the French premiere of Dr Arlene Sierra’s Butterflies Remember a Mountain at the Louvre on 11 December. The performance will be introduced by a pre-concert presentation on the work given by students of the Conservatoire national supérieur de Paris.

Dr Sierra, Senior Lecturer in Composition at the School of Music, is a composer of chamber, orchestral and vocal music, as well as opera, music for dance, and music for film. This performance is part of a busy season for her music, including recent touring performances and regional premieres in London, Cardiff, Birmingham (Alabama), Valencia (Spain), and Guadalajara (Mexico).

Butterflies Remember a Mountain, inspired by a study of Monarch butterfly migration patterns, was commissioned by the Bremen Philharmonic Society at the behest of its Artist-in-Residence, the acclaimed young cellist Leonard Elschenbroich. It has been toured internationally by the trio of Nicola Benedetti, Leonard Elschenbroich, and Alexei Grynyuk.

The Sitkovetsky Trio – comprised of Wu Qian (piano), Alexander Sitkovetsky (violin), and Richard Harwood (cello) – has performed in leading concert halls across Europe, as well as further afield.
