Speaker: Robert Muir-Wood (Risk Management Consultants)

‘Disasters are increasingly foreseeable - their outcomes can be anticipated long before they happen. This gives us the power to intervene and prevent their worst outcomes. So given that we now have all this knowledge why do so called ‘natural’ disasters continue to happen? ‘The Cure for Catastrophe’ will explore how far we have advanced in the science, engineering, risk modelling and social sciences of disasters.

Robert Muir-Wood is author of the book - The Cure for Catastrophe, twice an IPCC Lead Author, and Chief Research Officer at the global risk modelling company RMS.

The 2017-18 monthly series of evening lectures in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences will look at Catastrophes: past, present and potential. Lectures begin at 6.30pm and will be held in the Wallace Lecture Theatre (0.13), Main Building, Cardiff University, Park Place, CF10 3AT.

No booking is required.

All members of the university and the general public are welcome to attend.
