Presenter: Lidia Garcia

Improved food governance constitutes a key tool to deliver food security and build more sustainable food systems. In this presentation, Lidia will analyse an innovative food governance initiative, working across scales, sectors and multiple actors: the school feeding program (PASE, in its Spanish acronym) of El Salvador.

This public program consists of weekly acquisition of fruits, vegetables and eggs to incorporate into the traditional menu (5 staple non-perishable foodstuffs). These new products are purchased from local farmers and cooperatives.

In this presentation Lidia will discuss how this program contributes to improve the four dimensions of food security and highlight challenges ahead. Particular attention will be given to the role of governance in delivering food security outcomes.
