Mark Drakeford

Exploring what this means for Wales.

Amongst the growing range of fiscal levers devolved to Wales is a hitherto untested mechanism to create taxes only for us.

Following the development of a short list of taxation options comprising of: Vacant Land Tax, Disposable Plastics Tax, Tourism Tax and Social Care tax - a decision has now been taken to promote a potential Vacant Land Tax to test this new machinery.

Mark Drakeford AM will provide an update on progress so far, dealing with both policy and Process developments. It will also offer an opportunity to discuss the issue of ‘Wales only’ taxes more generally.

Mark Drakeford became the Assembly Member for Cardiff West in May 2011. He was Chair of the Assembly’s Health and Social Care Committee from July 2011 - March 13 and of the All-Wales Programme Monitoring Committee for European funds from July 2011 – March 13. He was appointed Minister for Health and Social Services in March 2013. He was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government in May 2016. Mark was appointed Cabinet Secretary for Finance on 3 November 2017.
