Why do many professionals voluntarily pay for the pain involved in undertaking immense physical challenges such as ‘Tough Mudder’? What do they get from the experience?

Sharing the research work of Dr Rebecca Scott (and her co-authors Dr Julien Cayla and Dr Bernard Cova), this briefing considers the paradox of physical pain within the context of the business world. On the one hand, people seek medication to soothe pain, yet on the other, some pay to engage, voluntarily, in intensely painful experiences. This session will explore the findings of their research which will help to give leaders a much deeper insight into why these experiences are increasingly important to young professionals – more than just teambuilding, these experiences can give us a better understanding of the working lives we create.

We are delighted to invite you and a colleague to our next Cardiff Breakfast Briefing at our Executive Education suite at Cardiff Business School, Postgraduate Teaching Centre, Colum Drive, Cardiff, CF10 3EU.

This event is part of the Business School’s Breakfast Briefing series, a network that enables our business contacts to find out more about the latest research and key developments from our industrial partners.

We do hope you will be able to join us for a stimulating talk and networking over a croissant and coffee.
