Range of Community Programmes launched for Community Nursing

Cardiff School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies are launching three flexible programmes designed to meet the differing needs of community practitioners.  

Over the past two years the 'Fundamentals in Community Practice' (Wales' community nurses' core module) programme has been developed.  This programme can now be built upon for community practitioners to develop further into masters and degree level awards.  

Programmes available include:

  • Fundamentals of Community Practice – All Wales Module
  • BSc Community Health Studies - specialist practice qualification for district nurses, practice nurses and community mental health nurses
  • BSc Community Practice – selection of modules for nurses working in community setting in roles such as acute response and community resource centres.
  • MSc Advanced Practice (Community Health Studies) – range of modules to include non-medical prescribing, complexities of care and assessment and diagnostic reasoning

Judith Carrier, Programme Manager said "These programmes insure that community nurses are fit for purpose and able to provide the necessary leadership for increasingly diverse community services which are developing to meet the growing needs of an ageing population is now incorporated into a range of modules at masters and degree level."
