24 June 2010
Cardiff School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies will be offering a new programme of nursing for graduates – the Postgraduate/MSc in Nursing. This is an accelerated programme for graduate entrants who wish to train as a nurse.
This new programme acknowledges that the skills and abilities of the graduate candidate and will enable them to meet the challenges of Higher Education, and attain their nurse registration in a shorter timescale. This full-time programme leads to nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), as well as the academic qualification in either Adult Nursing, Mental Health Nursing or Children’s Nursing. On successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma there is an option to progress to a Masters of Science in Nursing award. Further details on request.
The programme will commence in October 2010 and is 28 months in duration. Students undertake a 4-month foundation module and then study either Adult Nursing, Mental Health Nursing or Children’s Nursing branch programmes (24 months).
Sue Williams, Programme Manager said: "This programme offers an ideal opportunity for graduates with a keen interest in nursing to achieve registration with the nursing and midwifery council and a postgraduate diploma within a short period of time. The programme is particularly suitable for those interested in a research career in the exciting nursing and healthcare research arena."
There are no tuition fees and a non-means tested bursary is available to students who meet the NHS Student Bursaries eligibility. The bursary is currently £6,701 per year. An additional sum may be paid dependent upon personal circumstances.
