Adult Nursing (BN)
UCAS Code: B740 BN/AdDuring the adult programme you will acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes you need to meet the standards of proficiency for pre-registration nursing education. You will develop the essential skills of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care, using an evidence-based approach to practice. The theoretical input is related directly to the delivery and management of care for adult clients. The final module of the programme focuses on preparing you for making the transition from student to registered nurse - RN (Adult).
Patient-centred care which assesses physical, social, psychological and spiritual needs is essential to an individual's health and well-being. Care should be based on partnership with patients and carers, involving members of the multi-disciplinary team. Multidisciplinary team working will be experienced in all practice areas but is given particular emphasis in modules focusing on the care of people with long term health needs, specialist and primary care nursing. Adult nursing includes caring for individuals in an age range that spans from adolescents to older adults. Care is provided in diverse care settings and the adult nurse is required to provide evidence-based practice which promotes independence and autonomy. Practice-based learning is central to your development. Adult nursing takes place in a variety of settings both inside and outside of the hospital, and your learning is enhanced by the variety and quality of clinical placements encountered during your three-year programme. In total you will spend 42 weeks of the branch programme on clinical placement. Each clinical placement is provided within the South East Wales region by some of the leading health care providers in Wales. During Year Three there are opportunities, though limited, for you to undertake a European placement. In the final year you can choose two of your clinical placements.
Please Note: All UK nursing programmes are being revised as required by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The nursing programmes at Cardiff University will reflect these changes and will be implemented for 2012 entry. Details will be placed on this web page as they become available.
