Entry Requirements 2014 for Children, Adult and Mental Health Nursing Programmes

Entry Requirements 2014 for Midwifery Programme

Undergraduate Entry Requirements 2014 for Midwifery

Entry Requirements 2013 for all Nursing and Midwifery Programmes

Please note: Applicants whose post 16 entry requirements are over 3 years old will be required to provide evidence of recent study at an appropriate level.

A-level: Nursing - Typical offer BBB. Midwifery - Typical offer ABB. General Studies and Essential Key Skills will not be included. Specific subjects are not required.

Welsh Bacc: Nursing - To include a pass in the core and two A-level passes at grade B or above. Midwifery - To include a pass in the core, one A-level pass at grade A and one at grade B or above.

BTEC: The National Diploma in Health Studies should be passed with a minimum of DDM as the final award for Nursing, or DDD for Midwifery. The BTEC in Early Years should be passed with DDD as the final award.

Int Bacc: 28 points. English Language, Maths and a Physical Science must be offered at Subsidiary or GCSE Level, if not at Higher Level.

Access Course : Students must offer a credit-based nursing or health based diploma level course validated by The Open College Network. This should be passed with a minimum of 27 distinctions and 18 merits for nursing and 30 distinctions and 15 merits for Midwifery. Access courses are standalone programmes, therefore applicants are not required to meet the GSCE requirements. Please note: Distance Learning Access Courses are acceptable to the School provided they include witnessed assessments in a supervised assessment centre. Assessments by Skype are not acceptable for entry onto our programmes.

OU K101

This should be passed with the award of 60 level 1 credits.

Essential entry requirements

All applicants aside from Access applicants will be expected to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs including English Language, Maths and a Physical Science at grade C or above.  In certain circumstances Key Skills at Level 3 in Communication and Application of Number may be accepted in lieu of English/Welsh and Mathematics.

Please note:    Deferred entry is not available for the Bachelor of Midwifery programme.
