GUIDE TO ONLINE ENROLMENT
This page provides a brief guide to enrolment. It is important that you read this information prior to completing the online enrolment task.
What is online enrolment?
All students are required to complete the online enrolment task at the start of each academic year whether or not they are taking a module or not. Enrolment is the formal process of becoming a student of the University and when enrolling online you will be required to:
- Agree to be a student of the University for the whole, or part of, an academic year/session.
- Confirm your agreement to abide by the University’s rules and regulations and to become liable for fee payment.
- Confirm that you consent to the University processing the information acquired by it in accordance with the University’s Data Protection Statement.
- Check and update personal information held by the University on your student record.
- Pay, or make an arrangement to pay, your tuition fees or provide sponsorship details (where relevant).
How to register online
Prior to starting the registration process you will need; to FIRM your offer on line; your Cardiff University username and password.
You can access the online enrolment task via SIMS online (http://sims.cardiff.ac.uk) using any computer with internet access: home, work, public library or internet café. Your internet browser should be Internet Explorer 5.0 or above, Firefox or Apache.
The online enrolment task will be available to you from approximately three weeks prior to the start date of your programme. It should take you no longer than 10 minutes to complete.
You will need to click on the ‘SIMS: On-line login’ link (on the bottom left of the screen) and then enter your Cardiff University network username and password, (if you are a new student to Cardiff University you will also be asked to enter your Student Number and Date of Birth as a further security check). You will then be presented with the student information screen where you need to click on the link ‘Begin Enrolment’.
You will be guided through a series of web pages which will enable you to check information held by the University about you, and update information where required. Your information will be saved as you complete each page, this means that you will not be able to go back and make changes once you have completed each page so please read and check the information carefully.
There are points in the online enrolment task where you can exit and return to at a later date. Please note the enrolment task will only be available to you for a limited time, and therefore you are advised to complete your enrolment as soon as possible.
Once you have completed enrolment you will see a ‘Confirmation of Student Enrolment’ screen and a copy of this will be sent to your email account within 24 hours. You may wish to print this out as confirmation you have completed online enrolment. If your programme contains optional modules or if you are taking a stand alone module you will be required to select your module at this stage by following the link to the 'Module Selection Facility'.
If you are using the internet in a public place please close your browser when you have finished in order to protect your privacy.
