Key Learning Opportunities:
Suitable for CFP and adult branch surgical placement.
2 maximum from Cardiff University SONMS at any one time as always also have two students allocated Glamorgan University. D2 West cannot accommodate any more than this allowance.
Students spend two of the six weeks placement rotating to urology theatre suite and general theatres for ear nose and throat procedures.
They also get the opportunity to spend time in the urology day unit where they will witness preoperative assessment clinics, minor surgery, urodynamics, catheter clinics, chemotherapy clinics and learn about the role of (and possibly spend time with) community based continence nurses and clinical nurse specialists, the latter providing care in relation to uro oncology, continence, cystoscopy, urodymanics, erectile dysfunction.
Whilst on the ward area as well as learning and practicing the principles of general nursing care students will have the opportunity to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care in relation to surgery, gain insights into pre peri and post operative nursing care, provide continence care and related health education / promotion.Preparation for Practice
