Associate Lecturer Scheme
The Associate Lecturer Scheme offers nursing and midwifery practitioner’s development opportunities in teaching and learning, research and scholarly activity, within a higher education setting whilst remaining in their substantive clinical post.
Launched in 2008, the Associate Lecturer Scheme in response to key policy guidance concerning ‘Clinical Academic Careers’ has been developed at Cardiff School of Nursing and Midwifery Studies in collaboration with local health partners. Each Associate Lecturer is supported by a dedicated mentor who assists with developmental objectives. Practitioners undertake a secondment for two days per week (15 hours) from their substantive clinical role for a period of between one and two years.
Throughout the School there are Associate Lecturer opportunities in both undergraduate and postgraduate education for nursing and midwifery practitioners. Secondment opportunities are offered on a rolling programme throughout the year, featured on Local Health Board intranet sites and disseminated by Senior Nursing staff.
Applicants to the Scheme are required to be NMC registered and possess a degree, preferably at masters level and have relevant post registration experience.
