The High Performance Programme (HPP) empowers elite student-athletes to achieve their full potential, in their studies, in competition and beyond. It offers personalised support to compete at the highest level while earning a world-class degree, so you don’t have to choose between sporting success and academic achievement.
As part of the programme, we'll help you to:
- Train and compete at the highest level while excelling academically
- Benefit from an athlete-centred approach that supports your individual journey
- Access specialist support and top-class training facilities
- Contribute to Cardiff University’s continued success in BUCS and beyond
Eligibility
To be eligible for the High Performance Programme, you must compete at a junior international standard or above in your sport.
Priority is given to Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth sports and/or sports within the BUCS competition framework. Other sports will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Successful applicants are expected to represent a Cardiff University 1st Team / A Squad.
Applicants are encouraged to provide clear evidence of their current performance and sporting achievements to strengthen their application.
The High Performance Programme welcomes applicants of all nationalities and degree levels.
Applying
Applications for the 2025/2026 academic year are now closed.
Applications for the 2026/2027 academic year will open on Thursday 13 August and close on Friday 2 October.
The 2026/2027 High Performance Programme application form will be available here once applications open.
