Our priority partnership with Dalian University of Technology supports joint academic programmes and student and staff exchanges.

On 15 September 2022, in the year that marked 50 years of diplomatic relations between China and the UK, Cardiff University and Dalian University of Technology in China entered into an international priority partnership.

This priority partnership builds on a 35-year partnership with Dalian University of Technology, formalised for the first time in 2018 through a Memorandum of Understanding.

As a result of the close synergies between our two institutions, student transfer agreements and extensive research collaboration has followed the initial Memorandum of Agreement; a collaboration that now spans all three colleges at Cardiff University.

Through the priority partnership, a dedicated collaboration fund has been set up, designed to support staff to engage more actively with colleagues at Dalian University of Technology across common areas of research, teaching and education.

Collaboration in all areas is strongly encouraged. The initial areas of education and research focus for the partnership are:

  • chemistry and chemical engineering
  • engineering (built environment, coastal engineering and electronic engineering)
  • data science and systems
  • artificial intelligence
  • intelligent logistics
  • financial mathematics
  • brain sciences

We envisage the priority partnership will continue to provide mutual benefits for students, as well as lead to enhanced research collaboration and opportunities for our academic and professional services staff to work together.
