On 9 November 2021, Cardiff University and the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand entered into an International Strategic Partnership.

The strategic partnership builds on a successful student exchange agreement with the University of Waikato. We envisage the partnership will continue to provide mutual benefits for students, as well as leading to enhanced research collaboration and opportunities for our professional services to work together.

The initial areas of research/teaching focus for the partnership are listed below, although collaboration in all areas is welcomed.

  • Language, Culture and Arts
  • Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (Robotics)
  • Business and Management
  • Water, Environment and Climate Change

As part of the partnership we will explore short and long-term teaching opportunities with Waikato, as well as building international collaborative platforms across teaching and research.

With strong cultural and geographical ties, we hope that an international strategic partnership with the University of Waikato has the potential to present wider civic benefits for both Wales and New Zealand.
