We connect people, places and partners.
Our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan, has developed a vision for innovation-led growth in Wales. Cardiff Innovation System works with stakeholders from all sectors to establish the University as a powerful engine for growth, promoting Wales as a capital for job creation, a source of highly skilled-graduates and a flourishing centre for innovation.
We are committed to fostering economic growth and social progress in Wales, reinforcing our civic responsibility. We are experts at turning our world-leading research into commercial success, generating 85% of all intellectual property income raised by Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) in Wales.
Ranked in the top five UK HEIs for the number of knowledge transfer programmes, our innovations and expertise have helped manufacturing and businesses, medical and healthcare sectors and the cultural industries improve their performance, processes and sustainability.
Our students are being encouraged to create jobs, not just seek jobs. Through work-based experience, industry-focused degree programmes, and management and executive education, we will provide a steady stream of highly-skilled graduates to businesses in Wales and beyond. Our enterprising graduates have established more than 270 start-up companies in the last three years, making us first in Wales and sixth in the UK for the level of graduate start-ups.
Places for sharing ideas
Our Innovation Campus is transforming our working culture, creating a hub for research and development activity in Wales. Our emphasis on the social value of innovation is reflected in our creation of the world's first social science research park.
We will continue to connect industry with our academics, tackling the needs of businesses and accelerating the translation of our innovations into new products and technologies, services, spin-outs and start-ups in Wales and globally.
